Betsy Ross Ramps A & B

An interchange enhancement part of the $93.6 million Section BR2 project to reconstruct and improve the ramps between the Betsy Ross Bridge, Aramingo Avenue, and I-95

  • Owner: PennDOT District 6-0
  • Location: Philadelphia County, PA

About this Project

This project involved removing and replacing the Ramp A bridge over Frankford Creek and the Ramp B bridge over I-95, Conrail, and existing ramps in Philadelphia, PA. A total of seven new bridges and two retaining walls were included in the scope. AEG provided a variety of miscellaneous design work, as well as construction-phase surveying services. Our staff was responsible for structural calculations to design multiple temporary excavation support systems to remove and replace both ramps.

AEG designed a temporary tower supported on a platform constructed with lightweight aggregates strengthened with geofabric to support the I-95 ramp during staged construction. This method was easy and economical to construct compared to the piles foundation-supported platform as proposed earlier.
