Paoli Transportation Center

Expanding multimodal access in the heart of Chester County

  • Owner: PennDOT District 6-0
  • Location: Chester County, PA

About this Project

The Paoli Transportation Center is a major infrastructure project aimed at improving multimodal connectivity in Chester County. Located on SEPTA’s Paoli/Thorndale Regional Rail Line and Amtrak’s Harrisburg Line, the new facility also connects with SEPTA Bus Routes 92, 106, 204, and 206. The project is being executed in two phases through a partnership among SEPTA, PennDOT, and Amtrak.

AEG is supporting the second phase of the project, which involves extending Darby Road over the railroad with a new bridge, removing the North Valley Road Bridge, and building an intermodal station complex. This phase also adds a high-level outbound platform, improved passenger amenities, expanded bus facilities, and a commuter parking garage.

AEG’s responsibilities include:

  • Preparing the Subsurface Exploration Planning Submission (SEPS), which consolidated all proposed subsurface investigations for the roadway and structures.
  • Administering the boring contract and coordinating with the drilling contractor for scheduling, permitting, utility clearance, and field logistics.
  • Providing field oversight and inspection for structure and roadway borings, including daily reporting.
  • Performing laboratory soils and rock testing in-house.
  • Delivering a Final Pavement Report and a Final Amtrak Pavement Letter Report.
  • Providing survey and environmental services to support design and permitting.

AEG’s contributions are helping to ensure the successful delivery of a modern, accessible, and integrated transportation hub that will serve commuters and travelers across southeastern Pennsylvania.
