Staff Professional 1 (Harrisburg, PA)

Engineering Technician to join our Harrisburg, PA office. Technician will perform a variety of Performing slope stability, settlement, bearing capacity, pile lateral capacity, and overturning computations for various types of structures, including retaining walls, bridges, culverts, noise barriers, and buildings. Prepare for Senior Engineer review various types of Geotechnical Engineering reports, including Structure Foundation Geotechnical Engineering Reports, Roadway Geotechnical Engineering Reports, Reconnaissance Soils and Geological Engineering Reports, Subsurface Exploration Planning Submission reports, and Problem Statement Draft Exploration Plan reports. Design drainage structures including trenches, excavation support and sumps. Assist in developing subsurface exploration programs, laboratory testing plans, and QA/QC for test results. Performing boring inspection, reviewing field boring logs using standards from PennDOT Pub 222, and entering data into a Boring Log Database (gINT). Engineering Field Technician (Harrisburg, PA)

American Engineers Group, LLC is a full-service consulting engineering firm seeking a Field Engineering Technician to join our Harrisburg, PA office. Technician will perform a variety of work in central and eastern Pennsylvania, including testing and sampling soils, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt. Applicant must be thorough, detail oriented, and able to learn and apply technical concepts while maintaining positive relations with site personnel and effectively communicating project related information. Outstanding personnel integrity, interpersonal skills, and judgement are essential.

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to advance knowledge and skills to take on increasingly complex tasks in a variety of engineering disciplines.

Duties include:

  • Perform field testing and inspection of construction materials
  • Sample and test soils, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt
  • Prepare daily reports and coordinate with construction services manager
  • Verify proper construction techniques and materials according to approved contract drawings
  • Read and understand project drawings and specifications as related to concrete and earthwork inspections
  • Assist with field work of increasing complexity
  • Perform miscellaneous soils laboratory, equipment maintenance, or office tasks, as directed
  • Overnight travel may be required to complete multi-day projects, typically within Pennsylvania

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Civil Engineering, Geology, or related science degree preferred, but not required
  • Related work experience in materials testing, construction, or consulting helpful, but not required
  • Good communication skills
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Valid driver license with clean driving record
  • Current industry certifications for materials testing a plus including ACI and PennDOT Concrete
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds

Project Geotechnical Engineer (Harrisburg, PA)

Candidate must possess professional engineering registration with a minimum of five years experience in geotechnical design. Study and analyze surficial and subsurface soil and rock materials to determine characteristics for construction, development, and land planning. Develop subsurface exploration programs, laboratory testing plans, and QA/QC for test results. Prepare slope stability, settlement, bearing capacity, pile lateral capacity, and overturning computations for various types of structures, including retaining walls, bridges, culverts, noise barriers, and buildings. Familiar with computations involving both shallow, spread footing type foundations, as well as deep pile and/or drilled shaft type foundations. Prepare various types of Geotechnical Engineering reports, including Structure Foundation Geotechnical Engineering Reports, Roadway Geotechnical Engineering Reports, Reconnaissance Soils and Geological Engineering Reports, and Problem Statement Draft Exploration Plan reports. PennDOT Certified Drill Inspector preferred and able to pass 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training. Requires a BS or higher degree in Civil Engineering or related field. Strong project management and good oral and written communication skills required. DOT experience is preferred.

Civil Engineer (Phoenixville, PA)

Provide analysis, design, and drawings for equipment, bridges, towers, and buildings’ foundations. Provide analysis, design, and drawings of temporary bridge abutments with steel sheet piles and reinforced concrete bridge abutments supported on HP steel pile foundations. This also includes composite arch bridges, single span bridges, solider piles retaining walls, crane foundation on micro-piles, and precast segmental abutment panels. Design drainage structures including trenches, excavation support, manholes and sumps. Design of steel structures for large scale industrial structures, buildings and marine loading platforms and provide structural design and review of multi-cell box culverts, single span bridges and structures using STAAD. Proficient in performing Finite Element Analysis and BIM applications. Requires a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering with 2 years of professional experience out of which minimum one year of experience in performing structural field inspections (steel and concrete). Knowledge of applicable codes such as ACI, IBC, AISC, ASCE, AASHTO, and DM-4 addressing structural design/engineering is a must.
