Project Geotechnical Engineer

Harrisburg, PA

Description: Successful candidate will study and analyze surficial and subsurface soil and rock materials to determine characteristics for construction, development, and land planning. Develop subsurface exploration programs, laboratory testing plans, and QA/QC for test results. Prepare slope stability, settlement, bearing capacity, pile lateral capacity, and overturning computations for various types of structures, including retaining walls, bridges, culverts, noise barriers, and buildings. Familiar with computations involving both shallow, spread footing type foundations, as well as deep pile and/or drilled shaft type foundations. Prepare various types of Geotechnical Engineering reports, including Structure Foundation Geotechnical Engineering Reports, Roadway Geotechnical Engineering Reports, Reconnaissance Soils and Geological Engineering Reports, and Problem Statement Draft Exploration Plan reports.

Requirements: Candidate must possess professional engineering registration with a minimum of five years experience in geotechnical design. Requires a BS or higher degree in Civil Engineering or related field. Strong project management and good oral and written communication skills required. DOT experience is preferred. PennDOT Certified Drill Inspector preferred and able to pass 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training.

Mid-Level Environmental Specialist

Harrisburg, PA

Description: AEG is currently seeking an Environmental Specialist to join its team at its Harrisburg office. A self-motivated individual with strong leadership skills is needed. He or she should have experience with projects for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC).

The selected candidate will be tasked with conducting and/or managing a range of environmental and engineering-related endeavors associated with transportation, dam and water resource, and private development projects. Tasks may include: conducting wetland identification and delineations, obtaining environmental permits from PADEP, USACE, etc., monitoring environmental permit compliance, developing and negotiating mitigation strategies, threatened and endangered species coordination, erosion and sedimentation control plans, stormwater management, avoidance and minimization measures, impact assessments, and regulatory/governmental agency coordination.

Education and Experience:

  • BS (MS a plus) in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Wildlife or Fisheries, Physical Science, Landscape Architecture, Engineering, or another related field.
  • 5-15 years of experience with the duties described below.
  • Dependable drive and character as demonstrated with a stable work history.

Desired Skills:

  • Ecological or biological experience in various fields of study including: applicable federal and state regulations associated with earth disturbance, wetlands and watercourses, threatened and endangered species, historic resources, and general engineering principles.
  • Experience with environmental compliance and documentation under the National Environmental Policy Act, for transportation-related projects.
  • Documented working experience conducting wetland delineations and Phase I Bog Turtle surveys.
  • Experience completing Phase I and Phase II/III ESAs for PennDOT projects in addition to field sampling plans, and health and safety plans; OSHA 40-hour certification, asbestos inspector certification, and lead-based paint inspector certification is a plus.
  • Experience with the preparation of permit applications, PennDOT CEE, KEES System, and regulatory coordination for various projects.
  • Experience working in a professional environment that demands exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to adapt to change in a fast-paced working environment, which includes multitasking across multiple, concurrent projects.
  • Superior communication skills, including the capacity to make oral and written presentations; the ability to interface with a diverse range of clients, governmental agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Additional experience in any of the following areas is desirable: air and noise evaluation; erosion and sedimentation control; stormwater management; watershed science/planning; wetland/stream restoration practices.

Duties and Capabilities of the Environmental Specialist Include:

  • Prepare technical reports and communicate the results to individuals in industry, government, or the general public.
  • Develop and maintain liaisons and effective working relationships with groups and individuals, agencies, and the public to encourage cooperative management strategies or to develop information and interpret findings.
  • Balancing time in the office with field work.
  • Coordinating various projects with Project Engineers and Administrative Personnel in the Phoenixville and Harrisburg offices.

Water Resources Engineer

Harrisburg, PA

Description: AEG is currently seeking a Water Resource Engineer to join our team at our Harrisburg office. A self-motivated individual with strong leadership skills is needed. He or she should have experience with projects for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC).

The selected candidate will be tasked with conducting and/or managing a range of engineering and environmental-related endeavors associated with transportation, dam and flood control, and private development projects. Tasks may include: Provide engineering and consulting services to a broad array of clients in both public and private sectors for water resources projects, with an emphasis on hydrologic and hydraulic modeling. Projects could include stream restoration, stream and wetland mitigation, dam and levee rehabilitations and upgrades, dam removals, bridge and culvert replacements, stormwater management, green stormwater infrastructure, sediment transport studies and scour analyses, watershed and TMDL studies, regulatory flood map revisions, and erosion and sedimentation control/NPDES plans and permits.

Education and Experience:

  • BS (MS a plus) in Engineering with emphasis in water resources, or another related field.
  • 5-15 years of experience with the duties described below.
  • Engineer in training certification (Professional Engineer license preferred).
  • Certified Floodplain Manager (desired).
  • This candidate should have experience on floodplain studies and H&H Reports for PennDOT projects.

Desired Skills:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of hydraulics and hydrology and associated computational skills to determine pre- and post- site runoff and calculations for a variety of private and public sector projects.
  • Proficient with hydraulic and hydrology calculations and modeling including HEC-RAS-2D, HEC-HMS, HydroCAD, SWMM, GIS, HY-8 including AutoCAD, and MicroStation.
  • Familiarity with PADEP and PennDOT permitting application processes including KEES and ECMS, and PADEP’s E-permitting systems.
  • Experienced in preparing H & H studies, Erosion & Sediment Control plans, and PCSM plans and reports, as well as preparing flood studies in relation to FEMA Letter of Map Revisions.
  • Superior communication skills, including the capacity to make oral and written presentations; the ability to interface with a diverse range of clients, governmental agencies, and other stake holders.
  • Ability to evaluate to determine the best and most cost-effective solutions.
  • Ability to complete site investigations, data collection, site surveys, and evaluation of existing facilities, and determine site hazard conditions in the preparation of PHASE-I, II, & III Environmental Studies and Reports.
  • Experienced with alterative analyses, feasibility studies, and engineer’s construction estimates.
  • Project management and budget/cost control experience a plus.
  • Complete evaluations, alternative analyses, feasibility studies, and engineer’s construction estimates.
  • Complete design calculations and utilize applicable software applications for design purposes.
  • Familiarity with Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PA DEP) permitting.
  • Familiarity with Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) design requirements.

Civil/Transportation/Highway Engineer – EIT or PE

Phoenixville, PA

Description: AEG is currently seeking a qualified Civil/Roadway Engineer to join us in our growing Phoenixville, Pennsylvania office location. The candidate will perform engineering design tasks on transportation projects such as roadway designs, ADA ramps, bridge replacements/rehabilitations, traffic controls, etc. under the direction of a Project Manager. This position offers potential for professional growth and may require working on multiple transportation projects concurrently.

Duties include:

  • Assisting with ADA concrete curb ramps design
  • Assisting with roadway design
  • Assisting with traffic control plans
  • Assisting with bridge/culvert designs
  • Assisting with traffic counts
  • Preparing construction plans for highway and/or bridge projects

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Transportation Engineering
  • 1-5+ years of experience
  • Experience with CADD (Microstation or AutoCAD)
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office)
  • EIT certification or Pennsylvania PE license

AEG has an immediate opening for an experienced Business Development Manager in our Harrisburg office to provide marketing and business development leadership for our growing multi-discipline engineering firm. This position requires an ability to identify, generate, and capitalize on new business leads and opportunities by leveraging both new and existing relationships. The Business Development Manager will be confident enough to communicate the technical expertise of the company, and must feel comfortable initiating a conversation with appropriate persons to do so.

Salary will be commensurate with experience. Proposal efforts will be for public and private sector clients. Experience with Federal, State, Municipal, and private proposal formats a plus.
