Montgomery Avenue Bridge

AEG supports safe bridge rebuild over Amtrak

  • Owner: PennDOT District 6-0
  • Location: Philadelphia County, PA

About this Project

The Montgomery Avenue Bridge reconstruction project replaced a five-span, concrete-encased steel through girder bridge that had long served as a vital connection in Philadelphia. Located over Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor, the original structure was outdated and structurally deficient. The new bridge, reopened in 2024, features a single-span steel girder supported deck atop reinforced concrete abutments. The $17.2 million investment was part of PennDOT’s broader infrastructure improvement efforts in the region and marked one of the first significant projects completed with funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

AEG played a key role in the successful delivery of this project. Our team was responsible for designing the debris shield, temporary support systems, and overhang support structures – critical components for safe and efficient construction over active rail lines. AEG also conducted construction-phase surveys to ensure precise alignment and elevation control throughout the build. Our technical expertise and attention to detail helped facilitate the safe replacement of this high-profile bridge, restoring a vital transportation link for the surrounding community.
