This project provides for the engineering and construction of a new multimodal transportation center in Paoli
- Owner: PennDOT District 6-0
- Location: Chester County, PA
About this Project
The new facility is on SEPTA (Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority)’s Paoli/Thorndale Regional Rail Line and Amtrak’s Harrisburg Line. Connecting services include Bus Routes 92, 106, 204, and 206. SEPTA partnered with PennDOT and Amtrak to advance this project. This project is being completed in two phases. AEG is involved with phase two, which consists of extending Darby Road over the railroad, including a new bridge connecting to the station and removing the North Valley Road Bridge. This phase includes an intermodal station complex with an additional high-level platform on the outbound side, passenger amenities, enhanced bus facilities, and a commuter parking garage.
AEG prepared a Subsurface Exploration Planning Submission (SEPS) that incorporated all proposed subsurface investigations related to the roadway and structures. The SEPS included final boring schedules and subsurface location plans. AEG integrated all proposed subsurface investigations in one Subsurface Boring, Sampling, and Testing Contract. AEG administered the boring contract and coordinated with the drilling contractor for scheduling, permits, utilities, and other administrative things. Notice of Intent to Enter Letters were provided by AEG. Our staff provided field oversight and inspection for the structure and roadway borings, including maintaining daily reports. Laboratory soils and rock testing were required, and AEG retrieved test samples and performed all approved geotechnical-related laboratory testing.
AEG prepared a Final Pavement Report and a Final Amtrak Pavement Letter Report. AEG also provided survey and environmental services for this project.
