About this Project
The I-83 East Shore Section 2 project is a transformative infrastructure initiative in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, spanning from just south of the Union Deposit Interchange to 29th Street. It includes the complete reconstruction of the Eisenhower Interchange and portions of US 322, I-283, and Eisenhower Boulevard. Designed to improve traffic flow and safety, the project will widen the I-83 mainline to three lanes in each direction and introduce directional connections to I-283 and US 322. Local access enhancements include new interchanges at Derry Street and Paxton Street near the Harrisburg Mall. The scope encompasses 64 lane miles, 29 bridges, 22 retaining walls, 11 curved girder structures, six culverts, seven bridges over Norfolk Southern rail lines, and four noise walls. High-mast lighting will be installed at key interchanges to enhance visibility and safety.
AEG contributes geotechnical expertise to this significant undertaking. Our team prepares Foundation Submission reports for numerous retaining walls, oversees the subsurface investigation program, conducts laboratory testing, performs design analyses, and collaborates with other design team members to deliver technically sound and timely documentation.
