AEG helps deliver safer Turnpike bridge ahead of schedule
- Owner: Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission
- Location: Dauphin County, PA
About this Project
As part of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC)’s Total Reconstruction Initiative, Bridge EB-311 was entirely replaced to improve safety and mobility along the Turnpike Mainline. Located in Lower Swatara Township, the bridge carries SR 441 (North Union Street) over the Turnpike and serves roughly 9,000 vehicles daily. The new structure was designed to offer better horizontal and vertical clearance, supporting the full reconstruction of the Mainline corridor in this area. Construction finished ahead of schedule, and the bridge opened to traffic in 2022.
AEG provided comprehensive geotechnical and civil engineering services throughout the design phase. Our team conducted subsurface investigations in coordination with the PTC’s Open-End Boring Contract, followed by in-house laboratory testing to support detailed geotechnical analyses. We developed foundation recommendations tailored to site conditions, performed infiltration investigations, and assisted with pavement design. AEG’s responsive field coordination and expedited review of construction submittals helped streamline the construction process, contributing to the early opening of the bridge.
