DRPA Tank Foundations

Foundation design support for storage infrastructure

  • Owner: Delaware River Port Authority
  • Location: Various NJ Locations

About this Project

Under a general engineering services open-ended contract with the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA), AEG supported the design of tank foundations at four key locations: Commodore Barry Bridge, PATCO Lindenwold, Ben Franklin Bridge, and Betsy Ross Bridge. Each site was designated for a 10,000-gallon above-ground storage tank with concrete foundations approximately 15 feet by 60 feet in size.

AEG conducted one-day survey services at each location, marking proposed boring locations and compiling point files into digital base plans. Geotechnical investigations included one boring per site, extending up to 25 feet below grade, with continuous Standard Penetration Test (SPT) sampling. AEG provided full-time drilling oversight, logging, and visual classification of soils.

Laboratory testing was performed in AEG’s AASHTO Accredited and USACE Validated lab. The resulting report summarized subsurface conditions and provided preliminary recommendations for foundation design and earthwork.
